Critter Friendly Ornaments

There are so many ways to make critter-friendly ornaments to hang on branches during trail walks! It’s a fun activity to enjoy year-round from the classic pinecones rolled in nut butter and birdseed, to suet and good old-fashioned feeders. But our favorite way to create them is in winter, using just a few simple materials.

Materials needed:

dried or fresh fruit (we love using oranges!)

cranberries, fresh or frozen

nuts/seeds if no allergies

nature treasures

silicone donut mold (reuseable!)*

water

twine (optional)

Gather all materials and simply fill the "donut holes" or muffins tins. Add twine if using and top with water. Freeze in the freezer or outside if it's cold enough! Pop out, place in a back or bucket for transfer and hang on branches as you explore a local trail or your yard!

*You can use a classic muffin tin for this activity and fold a small piece of twine into a hook shape to place right into the ornament. Once frozen, they’re ready to hang along the trail for our creature friends to enjoy!
